Join Amanda Kitchen and Craig Eddington for this transformative Hatha Yoga and Gong Relaxation Sound Bath event.
The event will begin with one hour and 15 minutes of Hatha Yoga by Amanda which will be suitable for all abilities as alternatives and modifications will be given followed by a 45-minute gong relaxation sound bath by Craig.
In this yoga session, we will be focusing on asanas (postures) relating to the earth element (prithvi) to ground and balance the body and what better time of year to do this than during the summer months, especially if the weather is good and the yoga can be done outdoors allowing us to really root down and yield into the earth and then rebound the energy that the earth provides back up into our bodies to recharge and rejuvenate us.
The earth element is associated with the first Chakra, Muladhara or root Chakra which is located in the base of the spine. This element is associated with security, stability and safety. When the earth element is balanced you feel grounded, confident, flexible, safe, resilient and strong. We will be focusing on the following postures:
Forward bends to allow the mind and body to relax and to lengthen in the back of the body.
Standing and balance postures for grounding and to build strength and stability.
Twists which are great for the digestive system and abdominal organs, releasing toxins from the body and helping to cleanse the body.
We will also practice a gentle surya namaskar (sun salutation) and if the weather is good, this yoga session will be held outdoors so we will be able to practice the surya namaskar facing the sun to salute the sun absorbing it’s warmth and energy.
The Gong Relaxation Experience.
A Gong Relaxation Sound Bath is a fantastic way to leave behind the stresses of modern life. It is also a great introduction to Sound Healing and Sound Therapy. The Gong is played gently along with Himalayan & Crystal Singing Bowls. The captivating tones will lull you into a deep, restorative relaxation.
There are several health benefits associated with achieving this state of deep relaxation: lower blood pressure, increased blood circulation, balancing of the nervous system, reduced mind chatter, better sleep patterns. Some people gain mental clarity or feel very energised by the sessions. The session may even enhance your creativity.
Some people also experience a reduced sense of pain, plus relief from symptoms of ongoing medical conditions and illnesses. The sound helps to induce our natural relaxation response, taking us out of ‘fight or flight’ mode and into our restorative, parasympathetic state.
In my experience, people with auto-immune conditions and conditions involving the nervous system seem to feel considerable benefits.
Participants generally leave with a feeling of inner peace and tranquillity and a reduced sense of stress, anxiety or worry.
A Gong Relaxation works on all levels of your being – mind, body, soul & spirit. The sound vibrations will provide a ‘sonic massage’ to your physical self and subtle energy fields, leaving you feeling relaxed, refreshed and restored.

The yoga we will explore will predominantly be Hatha based but we will also explore elements of Vinyasa flow.
Hatha Yoga works at a slower pace and works with individual postures and includes pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and relaxation. It is ideal for those beginning their yoga journey and who are newer to yoga or for those who want to improve their practice.
Classes will begin with some pranayama to settle you on the mat and connect your mind with your breath and body followed by a nourishing warm up leading into an energising asana practice (postures) to improve your flexibility, stability, strength and muscle tone. Awaken your senses with a guided, restorative savasana (relaxation) followed by a guided meditation to cultivate a calm, steady mind and connect with your inner-self and boost feelings of wellbeing and happiness.
Vinyasa flow is a dynamic, creative style of yoga in which the asana (postures) are linked together and synchronised with a yogic breath. This style of yoga allows you to feel the physical power of a yoga practice. When we begin to move through a physical flow with the breath our inner energies begin to flow more freely through the body leaving us feeling energised and revitalised. This style is rooted in Ashtanga so often includes an Ashtanga style ‘vinyasa’ to link sequences – unlike Ashtanga, you will enjoy and experience a creative mixture of postures and sequencing rather than it being set. Sessions typically begin with pranayama to connect the mind with the body and breath followed by an energising warm up. A cool down is followed by a short savasana.
We will explore different forms of Pranayama to switch on the Parasympathetic Nervous System to cultivate a calm mind and help alleviate stress, anxiety and mild depression. We will also explore some pranayama techniques that are more energising for the body.
Control and/or quieten the mind focusing on different meditation techniques such as visualisation using nature and the five great elements, (earth, water, fire, air and space), mantras, a word repeated to aid concentration, chanting, focusing on internal sound (nada) and chakras to bring you into conscious being and connect with your inner-self to cultivate joy and happiness. Just being rather than doing.
