Join us for this transformative Hatha Yoga and Shamanic Drumming workshop with Amanda Kitchen, from Pura Vida Holistic Therapies, and Rick & Sheila Blackwell, from Spirit of The Sacred Drum.
The event will begin with hatha yoga suitable for all abilities, followed by a short break. The session will then continue with Shamanic Drumming and relaxation to close the session.
Amanda works as a yoga teacher, clinical aromatherapist and complimentary therapist. She is passionate about being able to equip people with the tools and techniques yoga provides so they can use them as a mechanism to help them deal with the stresses, strains and challenges that life can all too often throw at them.
In this workshop, Amanda will be focusing on the Earth Element – prithivi and asanas (postures) to ground and balance the mind and body – perfect for the Autumn months. The transition from Summer to Autumn and the change in the weather can often leave us feeling unbalanced, ungrounded and a little stressed. The earth element is associated with the first Chakra – Muladhara or root chakra, located in the base of the spine. This element and chakra are associated with security, safety and stability. When the earth element is balanced you feel confident, grounded, flexible, safe, resilient and strong.
Rick and Sheila Blackwell are Shamanic Practitioners who studied at ‘The Warrior in the Heart Foundation’ based in Glastonbury. They practice both traditional and modern approaches to Shamanism and are based in Yorkshire. Their spiritual path has led them to a deeper understanding of the connection between Humanity, Nature and the Universe and that we are all as one; the understanding of which is at the core of Shamanic Practice. The aim of the Shamanic Path is to reach a state of oneness which is called the ‘awakening’ and with the help of our spirit guides, we can bring back Wisdom, Guidance and Healing for ourselves, for others and for all creation.
We aim to deliver something which will incorporate the use of the Spirit Flute, Frame Drum and Rattles. We will lead attendees into the experience of Shamanic Journeying, to connect with power animals/guides as a method of empowerment, healing and grounding. Chants are often used, and are by and large traditional Native American in origin, with some exceptions, and have a deeply spiritual/naturalistic content.
We live in a fast paced, technology led world, so taking time out just for you and experiencing this session will leave the mind and body feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Join us for this lovely workshop, everyone welcome!

The yoga we will explore will predominantly be Hatha based but we will also explore elements of Vinyasa flow.
Hatha Yoga works at a slower pace and works with individual postures and includes pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and relaxation. It is ideal for those beginning their yoga journey and who are newer to yoga or for those who want to improve their practice.
Classes will begin with some pranayama to settle you on the mat and connect your mind with your breath and body followed by a nourishing warm up leading into an energising asana practice (postures) to improve your flexibility, stability, strength and muscle tone. Awaken your senses with a guided, restorative savasana (relaxation) followed by a guided meditation to cultivate a calm, steady mind and connect with your inner-self and boost feelings of wellbeing and happiness.
Vinyasa flow is a dynamic, creative style of yoga in which the asana (postures) are linked together and synchronised with a yogic breath. This style of yoga allows you to feel the physical power of a yoga practice. When we begin to move through a physical flow with the breath our inner energies begin to flow more freely through the body leaving us feeling energised and revitalised. This style is rooted in Ashtanga so often includes an Ashtanga style ‘vinyasa’ to link sequences – unlike Ashtanga, you will enjoy and experience a creative mixture of postures and sequencing rather than it being set. Sessions typically begin with pranayama to connect the mind with the body and breath followed by an energising warm up. A cool down is followed by a short savasana.
We will explore different forms of Pranayama to switch on the Parasympathetic Nervous System to cultivate a calm mind and help alleviate stress, anxiety and mild depression. We will also explore some pranayama techniques that are more energising for the body.
Control and/or quieten the mind focusing on different meditation techniques such as visualisation using nature and the five great elements, (earth, water, fire, air and space), mantras, a word repeated to aid concentration, chanting, focusing on internal sound (nada) and chakras to bring you into conscious being and connect with your inner-self to cultivate joy and happiness. Just being rather than doing.
