YOGA WITH AMANDA

Tuesdays: 10.00 am – 11.30 am

Classes will begin with some Pranayama (breath work) to arrive, settle, ground you and bring you into the present moment, connecting your mind with your breath.  We will also focus on connecting within our bodies, our emotions and our spirit.  This will lead into a warm up and sometimes practicing qi gong to optimise energy in the mind, body and spirit.   The main part of the class will focus on practicing yoga around the cycles and seasons of the year.  For example, in winter, the classes will be much slower and based around yin/restorative yoga/yoga nidra and will be mainly on the ground whereas in summer, classes will be more flowing and based around vinyasa flow/Hatha yoga.  I devise an outline class plan before each session but this can be adapted on the day according to the needs of the students and how they are feeling emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.

Themed Hatha Yoga Class

(some previous experience in yoga is necessary)

Mondays – 7.45 pm – 9.00 pm

Classes will be focused around a particular theme or element each week and will begin with some pranayama (breath work) to ground and settle you on the mat and connect your mind with your breath followed by a nourishing warm up leading into an energising asana practice (postures). A cool down will then lead into further pranayama techniques to calm the body in preparation for a guided meditation to control and/or quieten the mind.  The focus each week will be on a different meditation technique such as a visualisation, a mantra (a word repeated to aid concentration), chanting (focusing on internal sound -nada) and the chakras (a wheel or vortex of energy) to connect with your inner-essence and cultivate feelings of joy, peace and happiness.  A  guided, restorative savasana (relaxation) will conclude the class.

Energising Rise and Shine Gentle Vinyasa Flow Yoga Class

Wednesdays – 7.15 am – 8.15 am

Set yourself up for the day with this energising gentle vinyasa flow yoga class to get the energy flowing around your bodies, releasing any deep-rooted blockages manifesting as aches and pains, tightness or stiffness in the body that may have been caused by deep rooted emotional as well as physical issues.  We will take a few moments in stillness throughout the class to connect with our inner-being to really feel into the sensations and tingling as the energy begins to flow, allowing you to connect with your creativity and become more productive throughout your day.

Classes will begin with a short pranayama (breathing technique) to arrive, ground and settle you on the mat followed by a nourishing warm up including tapping and shaking the body.  We will then transition into an energising gentle Vinyasa flow.  The class will finish with a nurturing, short relaxation.

Chair Yoga

Thursdays – 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm

This adaptive form of yoga is great for older adults who cannot easily get down to the ground and builds flexibility, strength and stability, muscle tone and confidence and will improve the functioning of every system in the body.  Practicing yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby calming the body by lowering the heart rate and deepening and slowing the breathing rate and regulating blood pressure and blood sugar levels, bringing the body back into balance (homeostasis) not only on a physical level but also on an emotional, mental and spiritual level.

Chair yoga is also a great way to make new friends and engage and connect with other people building a community who are able to support one another at a time when a lot of vulnerable adults are shielding and may be experiencing feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Rest/Restore with a mini cacao ceremony and Yoga Nidra

Thursdays – 7.45 pm to 9.00 pm

Make time to relax, rest, restore, rejuvenate and heal your body with a mini cacao ceremony,  restorative yoga,  and yoga Nidra  A heavenly combination.

This class will begin with some pranayama (breathing techniques) to settle, ground and connect the mind with the breath and the body followed by a grounding meditation and a mini cacao ceremony.  A gentle seated warm up will lead into some nurturing restorative yoga postures.  The class will conclude with a deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra.

Themed Hatha Yoga

Fridays – 10.00 am to 11.15 am

One to one lessons are a really focused way of learning yoga and staying connected, grounded, balanced and cleansed, especially in these unprecedented, challenging times we have all found ourselves in.  It has never been more important to ensure all our systems are functioning at their optimum level, particularly our immune and nervous systems and yoga is a fantastic tool to use to keep us strong, stable and healthy not just physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Private yoga sessions are also ideal as a gentle introduction to help beginners on their yoga journey or for someone who might have a specific injury or health issue they would like to focus on, tailoring the sessions for you personally.
